THE STORY

Originally from Friuli, a region in northern Italy, "le Friulane" were born as a symbol of ingenuity and craftsmanship. In the 19th century, local families handcrafted them using recycled materials: curtain fabrics, coffee sacks, and soles made from rubber tires.

Interestingly, although they began as something humble, their elegant design and comfort quickly made them popular. For the women of Friuli in the 19th century, they were the Sunday shoes—modest, yet lovingly and skillfully made, reserved for special occasions like going to church or getting married. At the time, they were seen as a "luxurious" alternative to the traditional wooden work clogs.
